Description

Hobbies have dark-coloured backs, streaked bellies and underwings with a distinctive red patch behind their feet. Similar in size to a Kestrel, but are identifiable by their more angular, pointed wings. Hobbies are incredibly impressive aerial artists - diving with rapid bursts of speed and spectacular turns.

Spotting Tip

Captivating to watch in the sky where you will most likey see them, Hobbies are so fast that they can catch dragonflies, insects and even bats in mid-air. Male and female are similar, though juveniles lack the distinctive red patch behind their feet.
