Usually found perching on low hanging branches next to a slow-flowing river, Kingfisher's are unmistakable due to their electric blue plumage, orange bellies and long strong bills.
Found next to rivers and occasionally ponds and other bodies of water, a diving Kingfisher is truly a spectacle to watch. In fact, Japanese shinkansen or 'bullet trains' are modelled on the bill of the Kingfisher - the designer is a keen birdwatcher and noticed how their perfectly aerodynamic bills make little-to-no noise when diving!
