Britain's only naturalised parrot, Ring Necked or Rose Ringed Parakeets are unmistakable due to their bright green plumage, red curved beak and long pointed tails. Their distinctive 'kee-ak kee-ak kee-ak' call can be heard in flocks, which tend to be very noisy. Mainly found in London and the south-east, these impressive-looking birds continue to grow in numbers and will likely spread to other areas in the UK.
Found in parks, forests and woodlands, Ring Necked Parakeets are becoming more and more widespread and can even be found at the bird feeder. At dusk, you can often see huge flocks of parakeets soaring noisily across the sky.
